These works are humorous experiments that sit somewhere between popular culture, abstraction, and the avant-garde. Each painting borrows a little from the language of mass media and a little from the unpredictable logic of experimental art, producing results that are equal parts playful and thought-provoking. They poke fun at the seriousness of the art world while also paying homage to the very traditions they disrupt. Whether worn on a T-shirt or framed on a wall, these pieces invite viewers to laugh, reflect, and reimagine how art fits into everyday life.
I’m Ilya Melnikov (Ontolone), a London-based interdisciplinary artist working across film, music, collage, and conceptual projects. My practice blends humour, philosophy, and surrealism with a DIY outsider sensibility, producing work that moves freely between the gallery, the street, and digital spaces. Over the past eight years, I’ve created content ranging from experimental short films to corporate video, and from abstract drawings to conceptual music releases. With ongoing visual art, I aim to make art both playful and accessible, while still carrying the depth and intensity of serious creative work.
